The Connecticut General Assembly issued a citation to Jenkins for his induction into the 2014 Martial Arts Hall of Fame.
The citation states, “The Connecticut General Assembly hereby offers its sincerest congratulations to Wesley C. Jenkins in recognition of his many accomplishments, which include several state and international championships, using your talent and experience to start a gym that combined teaching karate and cardio fitness, which was truly visionary. As our nation has just observed Veterans Day, we also thank you for your military service to this country. We want to especially commend and congratulate you on being selected to the Philadelphia Historic Martial Arts Society Hall of Fame in the class of 2014. The entire membership extends its very best wishes on this memorable occasion and expresses the hope for continued success.”
The citation was followed by Monroe Webster, representative for Mayor Neil M. O’Leary, presenting Jenkins with the key to the city of Waterbury.
“On behalf of all those who question if success is an illusion, let my acceptance of the key to the city of Waterbury, Conn., be your answer,” Jenkins said in a news release. He also said he was surprised with the awards, and he was overwhelmed with gratitude for those who took the time and effort to recognize and honor him.Jenkins is an eighth dan black belt in the art of tang soo do. Jenkins is acknowledged and respected by several grandmasters in the art, the release states. World-famous Grandmaster C.S. Kim said, “Master Jenkins gives so much to the martial arts world. He provides our community with a great place to learn morals, values, respect and discipline.”
Tiger Do Jang is on Henry Ford Circle in Waldorf.
Founded by Jenkins in 1999, the school teaches tang soo do karate to students of all ages. Tiger Do Jang offers before- and after-school day care and summer camp. Jenkins also teaches boot camp fitness classes and personal training for sculpting bodies.
Jenkins said that the mission of Tiger Do Jang is “to educate, motivate and demonstrate to our students the philosophy that there is no problem which cannot be solved, no obstacle so great that it cannot be overcome if you approach it with confidence, intelligence, persistence and a positive mental attitude.”
